Touch up paint

Off the Honda Shadow forum:

BlockquoteI have touched up chips in paint the way Spirited discribed and taken it a few steps further. Slowly fill the paint chip, stay inside the chip, this may take several days because the paint shrinks as it drys. Once you are satisfied with the color, start filling with the clearcoat if required. Then carefully wet sand the blob down to the original paint level. I start with 1000 grit and soapy water and finish with 2000 grit paper and soapy water. Do not sand through the original clearcoat. Then use rubbing compound followed by a clear coat polishing compound and finish with a coat of wax. If the paint shine is hazey then back up a step or two and repeat process until satisfied. If the paint shrinks later on, I use a clearcoat paint and start the process of sanding and polishing again. If you can bring the paint up to the original level and bring back the shine most people cannot detect a color variance. I have used this process many times on chips about the size of a pin head or two and nobody has yet to spot the repair.Blockquote
